Content is King

Not just content, but regularly produced and distributed content.

High quality content helps people solve problems, educates, and establishes you - yes, YOU - as the expert authority in your field. It’s especially important in the field of medical aesthetics, where competition is fierce.

If you’re like me, this whole content-creation-distribution thing seems daunting. But as with most things in life, it doesn’t look so bad when you take a step back and think about it in smaller chunks.

How do you eat an elephant? One bite at a time.

In this post, we’ll look at some ways to narrow your focus on content creation, and increase your velocity too!

  1. Choose your channels

The online world is full of ways to distribute your content and let you voice be heard. How do you select where you want to focus your energy?

    Easy!

    Where are you comfortable?

Love writing longer form content that can be re-used? Blog your heart out.

Got mad dance skills? Yep, you can creatively incorporate bite-sized learnings into TikTok.

Energized by taking photos, creating fun hashtags? Do it for the ‘Gram (do the kids still say that?)

Are video and multi-media creation your passion? YouTube is for you!

Your channels will also inform the frequency with which you create. Newsletters and blogs can be monthly, but Facebook posting needs to be much more frequent to build your audience.

  2. Identify your target audience

No matter how cool your content is, if you don’t connect with your intended audience, you’re yelling into the void.

The chance that your single social media post will go viral and eventually get into the right hands to purchase your services is extremely miniscule. Don’t count on that as a strategy.

Instead, understand your ideal buyer and their content consumption habits. Reading, videos, photos, downloadable ebooks, newsletters?

Craft your content in a medium and voice that resonates with your audience, and deliver it to them where they are.

  3. Brainstorm topics

    I love this part!

What would you like to write about? What do your clients and prospects care about? What cool knowledge do you have to share with the world? How can you help people solve a problem?

Brainstorm out a list of ideas - topics, questions, headlines…anything that inspires you! This way, when you sit down to put pen to paper (or hands to keyboard, or fingers to phone) you won’t be stuck waiting for inspiration.

I keep my ideas written on strips of paper in a jar. When it’s time to write, I just reach into the jar and pull out a topic.

    Voilà!

    Time to….

  4. Build your library

    Here’s where the magic happens.

Set aside one day a week, or even one hour, dedicated exclusively to content creation. Commit to this schedule and treat it like your job…because it is your job.

For writers, it’s often helpful to employ the Pomodoro Technique. Set a timer for 15 minutes, and write non-stop until the bell rings. If you’re in the zone at the end of the timer, keep going! Otherwise, take a 5 minute break to stretch your legs and your mind, then get back to it.

The goal is to create a backlog of content that you can feed out into the world on a schedule - so you don’t feel pressured to produce something when the time comes to post. Life happens, better to have some fresh content in your pocket when you need it!

  5. Share the love

The old “if you build it, they will come” only works for baseball fields in the movies. When you post content, you gotta let people know!

Promote your content, promote your value, promote yourself and your business.

Building followers online and building your email list is a topic for another day, but for now just don’t be shy.

You are a wealth of valuable information, ready to share with the universe. Educate, empower, share…your business will thank you for it!
