Link In Bio!

Who here is trying hard to figure out HOW to draw in website traffic from Instgram??! 🙋‍♀️

You’re not alone. It’s not exactly easy to link traffic to your site from Instagram, hence we’re alllll too familiar with the phrase “Link in Bio!” Creating engaging content is crucial, but once you’ve gotten someone’s attention, you gotta get them to the Point of Sale (ie: your website).

How does this work?

Instagram doesn’t let you embed a link in your post caption. Ugh. I mean, I can see that, they don’t want people to leave their platform! But how are customers going to find your site (read: give you money) if they fall into an Insta rabbit hole for 4 hours?!

Users who see your super-cool/insightful/fancy/interesting Post, Story or Reel on Instagram must click on your username, then click on the one-and-only website URL you’ve chosen to list on your bio in order to visit your actual website.

If you just want to drive random traffic to your site, that works kind of fine (although there’s not much value in just increasing random traffic…we’re here to make sales, not feel good about our Site Hit Count). But what if you want to highlight a specific new blog post, new offering, or event on your page, that would actually lead to a SALE? You could change that one-and-only website URL every time – but remember, Posts and such live forever on the internet!

Imagine you make a Post promoting your new blog update, so you change the URL in your profile.

Six months from now someone is perusing your Instagram and they see your old post – by then you’ve changed that one-and-only website URL a dozen times over! They’re lost and frustrated.

Boooooo. Not the ideal user experience, and certainly not gaining you any clients.

This is how applications are born

Long ago, in the infancy of Instagram, someone realized this would be problematic, and created an app for that… Linktr.ee was born. Now there are dozens of options in this space, including ContactInBio, Lnk.Bio, FlowPage, Tap Bio and more. Free or paid, there’s something out there for everyone, with varying prices, options, and levels of complexity.

But there’s another option you could consider. And you may already own it.

If you run your own website, especially in something like Squarespace, you can make your own Links Page and direct people wherever they need to go on your site from Instagram.

No additional subscription cost for another tool.

No additional login information to remember.

Here’s how:

  1. Create a stand-alone page with navigations removed

  2. Add buttons to this page – each button with a helpful name and linked to the specific location you want

  3. Publish this page

  4. Use this page URL as your one-and-only website URL in your Instagram Profile

You can easily pop into this page and add/remove/re-order the buttons whenever needed, keeping the most recent at the top.

And voilà!

Free list for your “Link In Bio!”

Of course, if you don’t yet have a website for your amazing business, you need more than a link page.
