3 Tips for Better Blogs
Blogging can be a powerful tool to bring traffic to your website. Then the more time they spend on your site, the more likely they are to buy from you!
Plus, blogs are a great way to build your authority within your practice, showcasing your expertise and educating your audience. You’ve got great ideas, so let’s get the message out!
How to make a blog post that hooks readers
Here are my top 3 tips for creating blog posts that readers love:
1: Your Post Needs a Catchy Title
With over 600 MILLION blogs out there, how do you draw readers to your content? The competition is fierce, so you need to hook potential readers with a catchy title. Think short, attention-grabbing headlines that reflect what the reader will learn - like the title of this post!
People love lists - so “Top 3…” or “5 Things…” headlines often work well. Be sure to keep the list short! (Psst: if you have more than 5 things to share, make a follow-up “5 MORE Things” post)
Power Words are helpful here too. Haven’t heard of Power Words? These are words that immediately trigger an emotional response in readers - and you can use them to your advantage by dialing in the specific emotion you want to evoke with your topic. Think “stunning”, “exclusive”, or “instant”. Here’s a great list sorted by emotion, incredibly helpful!
2: Use Images in Your Blog Post
Make your post visually interesting with relevant images scattered throughout.
This helps break up the content, drawing more attention to what you have to say!
Imagine you have a lot of content to share and you create a compelling blog post…but it’s all text. Your readers are presenting with a wall of words. What’s the effect here?
Your readers will feel overwhelmed, and instantly navigate away.
Images are great for breaking up this effect, especially when coupled with my final tip:
3: Blog Content Organization is Key
How you organize your content can make or break your post. Guide your readers through using headers and sub-headers to draw attention to specific content.
In this post, we promised three tips, so there’s a sub-header with key words for each one (Bonus: formatting these as “Headings” can increase your SEO, as search engines like Google routinely look for headings in their algorithms.)
Then within each focus area, use shorter sentences and shorter paragraphs to keep the reader flying through your content. Drawing your reader from idea to idea, all the way to the end of your post, where you do a small recap and add a Call to Action.
And there you have it!
